In the past farming rice was an extremely tedious and possibly dangerous investment for the farmer. The crops require a huge amount of water and this required the rain season to come as planned.
Nowadays with canals, pumps and machines this industry has become one of the most profitable in SE Asia. Farmers can do at least 3 harvests a year and are not held back by the rain season any longer.
I am lucky to have extended family who are rice farmers and they invited me to take part in this season's harvest to help catch the field mice for lunch and to document how they do it all.
What a great experience I hope you enjoy the photos!
